Darci & Jeremy | Lake Wilderness Lodge | Maple Valley, WA
Two things. One – I love October weddings. The trees have changed just enough that everything is in a riot of beautiful vibrant color. And the light is constantly in a state of golden awesomeness. Two – October weddings in Seattle come with the knowledge of there will be rain on your wedding day.
So when I met with Darci and Jeremy back in February the discussion of rain did come up for their fall wedding at Lake Wilderness Lodge. And being the awesome prepared planners that they are they stated they had a backup plan in the event the weather wasn’t the ideal sunny and 65 degrees that we all hoped it would be.
Now fast forward to the Monday before the wedding and Cliff Mass writes a blog post describing highly dangerous windstorm with the potential to be an historic event. The rain will begin in earnest on Thursday, Oct. 13th culminating in a massive windstorm with gusts up to 50mph on Saturday, Oct. 15th.
Basically Seattle loses it’s shit.
But you know who doesn’t? Darci and Jeremy. Because they had a backup plan guys! And on their wedding day when I woke up to a massive downpour I wasn’t worried (well maybe a little bit. I mean 50mph gusts are no joke people) We could still rock photos inside, though I was a little bummed not getting to photograph all the beautiful fallness that was happening outside.
But (yes I know this story has so many twists) when Darci and Jeremy were ready for their first look the rain stopped. The wind died down. And we were able to go outside. And guys. It was magical. I mean most of that has to do with the fact Darci and Jeremy are so obviously in love. And photographing them? It’s one of the easiest things ever. They can make each other laugh with no effort. And when they look at each other? They pretty much beam happiness.
Below are a few of my favorites from the day. I cannot express enough how honored I was to be able to capture these moments.
